The North Hill Hotel and New Chapter is a boutique hideaway in the historic heart of Colchester. Just steps from the High Street, the hotel blends heritage and modern comfort, offering sixteen individually designed rooms, each with its own character and charm, where guests can unwind in style while exploring Britain’s oldest recorded town.
The story began in 2008, when we moved into 51 North Hill and opened our doors on December 1st. From the start, the goal was to create more than just a place to stay, a home for travelers where comfort, warmth, and genuine hospitality take center stage. What began as a small thirteen-room hotel quickly became a much-loved part of the local community. Many of our first guests still return today, a testament to the lasting connections built over the years.
In 2011, we lovingly restored the 15th-century barn and cottage tucked behind the main building. This careful transformation added four grand bedrooms, a twin, a king, an executive king, and a beautiful mini suite nestled beneath the cottages’ original rafters. Each space celebrates the building’s heritage while offering the modern luxuries our guests appreciate.
Today, The North Hill Hotel and New Chapter remains true to its roots: independent, welcoming, and filled with character.
